Government Facilities

Government Facilities

These include federal, state, county, and municipal projects. Federal work includes projects for such entities as United States Postal Service and the Department of Veterans Affairs.  County projects include metro transit centers and hubs, health centers, county administration buildings and emergency operations facilities.  City projects range from city halls to fire stations, police and administration facilities.  A key focus for these projects is to provide cost effective and long lasting systems.

Airports

Airports

KLH has been involved in airport related projects. These projects include air side facilities such as concourses, de-icing facilities, airport rescue and firefighting facilities, electrical and communications infrastructure, airfield lighting, and security.

Land side would include terminals, rental car facilities, baggage handling, roadway, roadway lighting, fuel farm facilities, hangar facilities and cargo facilities. Retail within the terminal and concourses, administration offices, parking POS systems, parking structures, police departments, field and facility maintenance building, salt storage building, and snow equipment storage building are other areas of KLH expertise.

Corrections

Corrections

Our experience of correction facilities has involved both county and state facilities, as well as juvenile and adult correction facilities, renovations and new build. Designs are required to meet local and state department of corrections standards, are robust requiring long life and abuse prevention, and include life safety features as well.

Emergency Services

Emergency Services

KLH Engineers provides mechanical, electrical and plumbing engineering design services for fire stations and emergency medical services facilities. Buildings typically consist of apparatus bays, living quarters, office and conference areas, and sometimes public space.

Electrical work can include HVAC, design of power distribution, lighting, site lighting, generator design, fire alarm device layout and communication/information technology. Domestic cold and hot water distribution, storm and sanitary drains and fixtures are considered for the residential areas.

Facility space that houses ambulatory and fire rescue vehicles is also considered in the designs.

Houses of Worship

Houses of Worship

KLH has designed systems for many worship facilities involving both historical and contemporary facilities, chapels to large auditoriums. Our experience includes new construction and renovation.  A key focus of this design is cost efficiencies with aesthetics in mind, as well as quiet operating systems.  Specialized lighting design and attention to specialized controls and sound systems are elements KLH designs to enhance the congregation’s experience.

Museums

Museums

Museums, some involving historical renovations, are an area of expertise for KLH Engineers.  Special attention to detail is required in terms of lighting levels , precise control of temperature and humidity, low noise, and fire protection systems. All are important in the design of these facilities and all are areas of expertise for KLH technical staff.

Performance Venues

Performance Venues

KLH has designed systems for various performance venues – both outdoor and indoor. These facilities require special considerations regarding design of lighting, sound, audio-visual, controls, and low-noise ventilation systems.

Public Libraries

Public Libraries

KLH has worked on new build, additions, and renovations of public libraries. We bring a high level of design to technology systems that are critical to libraries today. Lighting and ventilating systems are important to library facilities and of increasing importance is technology. KLH covers these areas thoroughly and designs specific controls for various areas from computer terminal sections to children’s areas to allow some natural light.

Streetscape

Streetscape

Streetscapes can involve decorative lighting, gateway signage, decorative street fixtures, water features, specific signage and branding light poles with amenities for plant and flag receptacles.  KLH is certified by ODOT and KYTC for lighting design for streetscapes. Municipal streetscapes are a key focus area for the lighting designers and electrical engineers serving the civic market segment at KLH Engineers.

Utility

Utility

Utility facilities KLH design involve electric, water, and telecommunications utilities. KLH has a specific niche for providing engineering for rural electric cooperatives. Due to the nature of the industry, KLH typically designs these facilities to LEED standards, a majority of them being LEED Gold or Platinum. The highly efficient structures promote energy efficiency to their members and community.
