KLH Creates Jobs, Opens Lexington Office
- Fri, Mar 23, 2012-12:00 AM

KLH Engineers is pleased to announce the opening of their downtown Lexington, Ky. office location.

Now with five office locations, KLH Engineers has seen more than a 55 percent growth since the 2008; almost doubling in size in a down economy.  Established and operating in Kentucky for nearly 60 years, KLH is investing in the Commonwealth by creating job opportunities and hiring local talent.  “One of the paramount goals in launching this branch office was to be fully staffed prior to opening and capitalize on the pool of highly qualified engineers in the Lexington area,” said Robert Lonnemann, principal of the firm.

KLH Engineers chose to locate their new office in the downtown area as its vibrant environment coincides with their company culture and design mindset. Its centralized location at the corner of Main and Rose Streets will allow the firm to serve their clients efficiently.  The new space is also targeted to achieve LEED (Leadership in Environmental & Energy Design) Certification; in which their walkable, downtown location contributed to earning points for the certification.

The office will be managed by longtime, senior principal, Robert Lonnemann; a member of the firm for more than 20 years.  Mr. Lonnemann has been operating in Lexington since October 2011.

A ceremonial ribbon cutting, hosted by Commerce Lexington, took place on March 23, 2012 to officially celebrate the opening of the firm’s new Lexington office.

KLH Engineers' 10,000th Project = Future 21c Museum Hotel
- Mon, Nov 22, 2010-11:03 AM

KLH Engineers is currently designing the 10,000th project in the consulting firm’s history: the new 21c Museum Hotel in Downtown Cincinnati.  “We are thrilled to have accomplished this significant milestone in our company, especially while working on such an exciting and unique project as the 21c Museum Hotel,” said Bob Heil, Principal of the firm and Project Manager for the hotel design.

This significant renovation marks the first new hotel in downtown Cincinnati in over twenty years and will feature an 8,000-square-foot contemporary art museum, a 160-room boutique hotel, meeting spaces and the Proof Restaurant and Bar.  The new hotel will restore the historic Metropole building located adjacent to the Contemporary Arts Center and across the street from the Aronoff Center for the Arts.

The 21c Museum Hotel was recently voted the #1 United States Hotel and the #6 Hotel in the World in Condé Nast Traveler’s Readers’ Choice Awards for the second consecutive year, 2009 and 2010. In both those years, it was also honored with Condé Nast Traveler’s “Gold List” of the World’s Best Places to Stay.

KLH Engineers is teaming with New York City-based Deborah Berke & Partners Architects as well as Pittsburgh-based Perfido Weiskopf Wagstaff + Goettle Architects to complete the project.

KLH Engineers announces Employee Certifications
- Tue, Dec 04, 2007-12:00 AM

KLH Engineers, an engineering consulting firm that offers mechanical, electrical, communication technology, lighting design services, and commissioning has expanded their commissioning department with the certification of two addition commissioning authorities.

Christopher Zurmehly has been certified by the Associated Air Balance Council Commissioning Group (ACG) as Certified Commissioning Authorities.  This addition places KLH as one of roughly a dozen AABC member companies with three or more Certified Commissioning Authorities, according to Ray Bert, of ACG.

KLH's certified commissioning personnel provide independent, third party commissioning services for their clients. Commissioning is a process focused on delivering a quality project to meet an owner's project requirements. Commissioning works to ensure that building systems are designed, installed, functionally tested and capable of operating in compliance with the design intent and the owner's specifications.

The one-time investment in commissioning a building can result in immediate occupancy and reduced operating costs over the life of the building.

"Commissioning services deliver value because the commissioning process creates a team atmosphere at the work site," said Chris Zerhusen, KLH commissioning authority. "It helps to fill voids that are in today's construction industry."

KLH Engineers selected as 2003 small business "Success" award winner by Northern Kentucky Chamber of Commerce
- Sun, Apr 06, 2003-12:00 AM

KLH Engineers received the prestigious honor of being named the 2003 Small Business "SUCCESS" Award winner in the category of construction trades by the Northern Kentucky Chamber of Commerce.  The award was presented as part of the Chamber's seventh annual celebration of small businesses.

"KLH Engineers is very pleased to have received such a prestigious award," said Bob Heil, Principal.  In addition to Heil, the other managing partners of the firm are Joe Kohrs and Robert Lonnemann.  "Everyone on our team has made this honor possible and deserves credit for this recognition.  Thanks to the Chamber for acknowledging our efforts and our commitment to the Northern Kentucky community."

Companies that are at least three-years old with 100 employees or less, and $5 million or less in annual sales revenue were eligible for the "SUCCESS" Awards.  There were 167 nominations for the four categories of construction trades, manufacturing/distribution, retail, and service.  The field was narrowed to thirteen finalists and then a panel of judges used a weighted system to score the applicants based on their financial growth over a three-year period, innovation, growth in employment or productivity, skill in using resources, and service to the community.  The top score in each category earned those businesses the 2003 "SUCCESS" Award for that category.

"The past year has created many challenges for small businesses and tested their sustainability in an uncertain economy," said Gary Toebben, President of the chamber.  "KLH Engineers adapted and succeeded despite the obstacles they encountered.  We are pleased to present a 2003 "SUCCESS" Award to KLH Engineers as an acknowledgement of their enduring entrepreneurial spirit in Northern Kentucky."

While other firms are downsizing, KLH Engineers is expanding.  They opened a satellite office in Dayton, Ohio, three years ago and recently moved their Northern Kentucky office to the new Fort Thomas Executive Centre, a project they are developing in two phases.  The first phase is the renovation of a 17,000 square foot existing building, which KLH is now occupying as the anchor tenant.  The second phase includes the renovation of the remaining 13,000 square feet and the addition of a 30,000 square foot class A office building. Heil said, "We designed this project to include a number of unique features that showcase our talents as design engineers."
