Syracuse Hancock International Airport (SYR) Consolidated Rental Car Center (ConRAC) & Switchgear Building
As Engineer of Record, KLH Engineers is providing mechanical, electrical, plumbing, fire protection, fire alarm and technology engineering design services for the new Consolidated Rental Car Center (ConRAC), a key component of the Syracuse Hancock International Airport (SYR) Landside Improvement Project. The two-level, 432,000-square-foot facility is designed to accommodate the airport’s recent growth and projected increases in both rental car and aviation demand, with capacity for approximately 1,250 ready/return stalls. Additional project elements include a weather-protected pedestrian canopy connecting the facility to the passenger terminal, provisions for a future bus stop, roadway improvements to enhance passenger access and circulation, and electric vehicle charging infrastructure to support evolving rental car fleet requirements.
To support the rental car garage development, the airport’s incoming electrical service infrastructure was re-envisioned to include construction of a new switchgear building housing a medium-voltage substation and associated switchgear. This system serves as the primary electrical distribution source for both the terminal and rental car facilities, increasing overall capacity and resiliency to support the airport’s continued growth and future operational demands.
